Our Holy Week Journey
This Sunday we embark again on the remembrance of the events at the core of Christianity as we relive the passion of Christ and his resurrection. More than just remembrance, in these services of worship, filled with mystery, we will experience the sacred story in some of the most beautiful liturgy our church has to offer.
Palm Sunday / The Sunday of the Passion – Services at St. Paul’s at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
To begin our Holy Week, we will remember Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, and hear a reading of the Passion narrative (although we save the punch line for the next weekend!). Then through this week we will have the special privilege of exploring the story with our South Berkshire Episcopal Church partners.
Maundy Thursday – Service at Christ/Trinity Church, Sheffield at 6:00 p.m.
180 Main Street, Sheffield – on Route 7, at Maple Ave.
At a Dinner Church service with a full meal we will remember the Last Supper; then we will move to the church for the stripping of the altar; followed by the Lenten Study at Christ/Trinity Church.
Good Friday – Stations of the City, Great Barrington City Hall at noon
Corner of Main and Bridge Streets
We step off at noon to walk a short route around Great Barrington, praying for those in need and remembering the passion of Christ.
Good Friday Liturgy at St. Paul’s at 6:00 p.m.
We have the honor of hosting our brothers and sisters for a solemn service that includes the Passion according to St. John, veneration of the cross, and communion from the reserved sacrament.
Easter Vigil at Trinity Church, Lenox at 7:00 p.m.
88 Walker Street, Lenox
We gather first in candlelight to recall the salvation story, then pronounce the resurrection of Christ and enjoy the first Eucharist of Easter, with music, storytelling, baptism, confirmation, and Holy Eucharist. We are honored that Bishop Doug Fisher will be our celebrant for this, the most moving service of the year.
Easter Sunday – Services at St. Paul’s at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 am
Join the St. Paul’s family in the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.
I hope that many of you will take the opportunity to fully experience Christ’s Passion through these moving services. If you need help with transportation, just let me know. May each of you have a most blessed Holy Week, and may God be revealed to you in new and surprising ways through these mysteries.
– Father Sam
Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Easter Flowers & Plants
We welcome contributions toward Easter flowers. Inserts the bulletins and at the back of the church may be used to list those you would like to honor or remember. Please put completed forms and checks (with “Easter flowers” in the memo) in the offering plate, mail to PO Box 704, Stockbridge, MA 01262, or e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday, April 17th.
Join us Saturday, April 27, 3:00-5:00 pm
St. Paul’s Arbor Day Celebration
Come to the St. Paul’s Church Yard on Saturday April 27 for a celebration of trees! We will gather in the church yard (or, in case of rain, in the church) and embark on walking tours of downtown Stockbridge led by local tree experts, circling back to the church yard for refreshments and gifts and activities for participating children. Local folk music artists (including our own Patty Melville!) will play, and there will be tours of the church. Representatives from the Diocesan Creation Care Team will also be present to demonstrate the Sustain Island Home program, offering creative ways to lessen our carbon footprints.
